Farmer's Market and the Supermarket

IT's THE WEEKEND: TIME TO GO GROCERY SHOPPING!

This time of year there are all sorts of amazing and beautiful fresh produce options out there. Many farmer's markets are still open - make sure you visit them first! I have found that when I do so I often make do with those purchases for a few days and cook fresh seasonal foods on the weekends because of this. If you do end up at the supermarket later that's fine because you should have a much smaller and more specific shopping list to work from now that you've gotten your fruits and veggies and many other foods at the farmer's markets or farm stands.

Grab a basket and head to the farmer's market
It's also a good idea to hit the supermarket last because if you have kids with you they have seen that you go outside first - you look for the freshest food from local sources first and this will teach kids that this is normal. Food is dirty and natural and the source matters so take the family with you to the farmers market!
Lastly, in case I have not convinced you yet to drive out of the way and hit the farm stands first - remember this is what food used to be, and needs to be again: a collage of colors, and sources! It comes from all over so why do we expect one stop shopping. Food does not come from one place and therefore we should not limit ourselves to one place when purchasing it.

I often find new things to try at farm stands and then go home and find recipes which use those foods. If I do this before I hit the grocery store I save myself extra trips later in the week when I realize my newest food acquisitions & recipes require ingredients I do not have in the house.

So go out there and discover some dirty, fresh, delicious and local food folks and enjoy the day! PEACE, Audrey
