I want to change my diet but I don't know how! Start here!!

Howdy folks! I hope everyone is having a great Saturday! I finally got on the blogger site and am happy to be back. Today I want to really encourage everyone to look at what you are eating. Especially if you are battling illness and injury. Here's a little homework. Take a pen and a piece of paper and write down everything you eat and drink fro a week. Next weekend we will look at your list - put stuff into categories and figure out where you may want to make some changes. How does that sound. Of course I come at this as a new vegetarian, and I gluten intolerant but I think I can help people with recognizing their eating strengths and weaknesses. If you are trying new habits - good for you. As long as you are mindful of what you are consuming and are willing to be a little adventurous - step out of that eating comfort zone a bit - then you are in a good place mentally. So I hope you accept my challenge. try to refrain from beating yourself up during the process. And remember I won't be seeing it - you will. NO LYING OR CHEATING ALLOWED. If you can't be honest with yourself then you have a lot of work to do. It can be done though - never fear!

The way I figure if anyone of you changes your diet the way I have in the past 13 months then this is so worth it. And I will feel successful in this endeavor. If you're just itching for dietary let's stick with the basics today:

1. JUST SAY NO TO GMO! I think we are all intelligent enough to know that there's something wrong with GMO's and if 60 countries have banned this then even if we live in the U.S. it may be wise to restrict these from our own diets. It's not as hard as some make it out to be. You have to shop with intention and conscientiously. That's all.

Here a list of foods & companies to avoid if you want to avoid Monsanto products! Now you know so share & shop accordingly folks!!! Fight the power

2. EAT A RAINBOW EVERYDAY: yup every single day. Try to get as many colors of produce packed into your meals as possible. Red, yellow, purple, green, orange - all of them! Your body will thank you. There is a reason edible plants come in so many flavors and colors - it's appealing. If your meals are all yellow or brown for the most part you need to look at that and soon.

3. Pay attention to what's up with your body after meals!: If you have indigestion regularly, migraines, swollen joints, gastrointestinal problems put those down in a separate column on your eating list this week. The longer you pay attention to this and the detailed information you include on your list, the better. You may realize you have a food allergy, a food dye allergy, are B12 deficient, are gluten intolerant like myself or simply are feeding yourself well enough to battle whatever plagues your body.

4. EAT WHAT IS IN SEASON! Because that's what will taste best and it encourages you to step out of your comfort zone. Try something new!

What produce is in season?

5. GO LOCAL! Grow your own food - I use an aeroponic Tower garden and highly recommend it for growing non GMO food. Please feel free to check out my website or ask me about this way to grow fresh produce on your porch or patio! (TOWER GARDENS: akorteshares.towergarde.com) Buy local and fair trade please. It does matter. It tastes better. It helps you build a relationship with local growers and teach your children where food comes from: and it's not the grocery store either. It's our good green earth!

So that's the advice I have for now. It's all you need to start changing your health and happiness. If you have questions I'm here. Now grab your pen and paper and get started. You have so much to gain with mindful changes to your diet! I hope you are excited! See you back here tomorrow and don't forget to write everything down folks! We got this. PEACE, Audrey
